Meet our Partners for CTAC Asia 2025: Camco Technologies
Port Technology International’s Container Terminal Automation Conference (CTAC) is heading to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 8 – 9 September 2025, marking its debut in Asia and uniting a vibrant new community of ports and terminals.
Ahead of the event, we spoke with our partners at Camco Technologies to explore how their smart automation tools are helping terminals across the region tackle rising throughput, labour shortages, and the push for sustainability.

Camco Technologies has been a pioneer in automating the container handover process. Could you share how your solutions have evolved to meet the growing demands of modern terminals?

Modern container terminals are under increasing pressure to manage rising volumes, greater complexity, and the need to operate safely, swiftly, and sustainably. At Camco Technologies, we understand that successful automation is not just about big leaps forward, but rather about thoughtful, flexible innovations tailored to each terminal’s reality.

From streamlining gate operations and accurately tracking containers or preventing incidents, every improvement contributes to making terminals safer, more efficient, and future-proof.

Our ARGUS system, widely used for automated damage inspection of inbound containers, has recently been enhanced with LIDAR technology for automatic oversize detection.

Other key solutions at Camco include:

  • Vehicle Booking System – smart scheduling for smoother gate processes.
  • Real-time Container Tracking – smarter tracking and safer movements.
With over 300 successful implementations worldwide, what are some standout success stories where Camco’s technology significantly enhanced terminal efficiency?

As India’s first fully automated deep-water terminal, Vizhinjam Port is projected to cut the country’s transhipment dependency by 75 per cent. Camco Technologies delivered a fully integrated automation package for the terminal, seamlessly aligning all processes – from gate access to cranes and yard management.

Currently, about 75 per cent of India’s transhipment cargo is handled at foreign ports. Vizhinjam has the potential to drastically reduce that share, generating annual savings of $200-400 million. The extensive use of Camco’s automation technology also guarantees optimal operations whilst maintaining a strong focus on customer orientation. This positions Vizhinjam strongly as a key regional hub.

Set to open in 2025 with an initial capacity of 1.8 million TEU, the semi-automated yard at Khalifa Port will feature 42 automated stacking cranes and 23 shuttles. Camco’s technologies will enable streamlined gate operations, reduced idle times, and end-to-end automation for faster, safer, and data-driven operations.

Looking ahead, what advancements or new solutions is Camco developing to further enhance terminal operations and address future challenges?

Radar technology, once limited to high-end automotive and military applications, is now central to several of Camco’s latest solutions. By pairing radar with AI, we’re pushing the boundaries of smart sensing across terminals, at gates, and along the tracks to deliver reliable, low-maintenance sensing systems that perform in all conditions.

Our latest sensing solutions include:

  • TRITECH RFID Reader with Radar
  • Train Buffer Sensor (TBS)

These developments aren’t about novelty; they’re about providing practical, scalable, and robust technologies that strengthen terminal automation where it matters most.

Why is CTAC Asia an important event for you and your clients?

CTAC Asia serves as a core hub for automation decision-makers in Asia, precisely aligning with our strategic focus:

Client needs: Asian ports are facing the dual pressures of surging throughput and labour shortages. Camco’s “one-stop automation gateway” can quickly unlock capacity.

Ecosystem development: The conference brings together port authorities, shipping companies, and TOS suppliers, serving as a key arena for promoting interoperability standards.

Camco’s commitment: With a widespread network of subsidiaries and partnerships, we ensure our clients are always within easy reach. Currently, Camco operates our Asia-Pacific headquarters in Shanghai, China, with additional subsidiaries strategically located in Singapore and India to provide Asian clients with the best on-time service.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s CTAC Asia?

We’re excited about the opportunity to engage in emerging-market dialogue, co-creating solutions with new Asian ports. We’re also looking forward to tech synergy by partnering with TOS providers to close “gate-to-yard” data loops. Most importantly, we believe in long-term, problem-solving partnerships – technology only works when people work together, and we want to get smarter through collaboration.

Are there any new developments, features, or case studies you’ll be showcasing at CTAC Asia?

We’ll be showcasing The Bridge, our all-in-one web-based software platform to manage all our yard automation technologies. Alongside it, our RTLS solution enables real-time asset tracking of every moving asset across the terminal – from road to vessel. Complementing these is our Real-Time Digital Twin, a virtual replica of the entire terminal powered by RTLS and OCR systems.

Together, these tools are designed to improve safety, speed up operations, and provide real-time insights. If you’re working on terminal automation, it’s well worth stopping by.

What’s your message to industry leaders attending CTAC Asia this year?

Asia’s growth must strike the right balance between efficiency and sustainability. That starts by avoiding operational silos – begin with smart gate systems, like Vizhinjam’s integrated workflow, and scale from there.

Embracing human-machine synergy is equally important; automation empowers staff, as seen with India’s first all-female crane operations team.

And above all, take an incremental approach. Visit Camco’s booth to explore your customised transition roadmap. Let’s collaborate to drive operational efficiency together!
